This wine comes from Tagabelle Vineyard, a small site just a stone’s throw from Ibarra-Young that is owned and cared for beyond organically by the Bolton family. From the moment I first learned about Tagabelle, I knew I wanted to create a co-ferment inspired by the Rhône whites I fell in love with while working in the Northern Rhône. These varieties always take me back to that time living in a medieval stone village, but Sundrop carries a distinctly Californian spirit.
Over the past few years, our relationship with the Boltons has grown into a true partnership. We’ve grazed our sheep among their vines, shared knowledge about holistic farming practices, and gradually woven our philosophies together. Today, we lease the vineyard, giving us the ability to steward the land as our own. We’re able to let the understory go wild and native, fine-tune the irrigation, and guide the vineyard’s vigor to match our vision. I look forward to watching this little vineyard continue to evolve, and to seeing it become more and more a part of us in the years ahead.

Marsanne and Viognier were harvested on a cool Los Olivos morning on September 4th. The grapes were brought to the winery and pressed directly to tank. A week later we harvested the Roussanne, splitting the pick into direct press and foot-tread components. Both picks settled overnight and the juice was gravity racked off of its heavy lees into neutral French oak barrels. Along with all of the whites in 2024, our Sundrop barrels enjoyed a long and slow fermentation. The wine aged on its fermentation lees, completed malolactic fermentation, and was blended together to taste. This wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered in September 2025.

A joyous midpallate with a seamless integration of all three varieties. Like mastering a white peach Pavlova. But not just any pavlova, she's decorated with orange blossom and pretty pansies that you get to share it with your best friends! She’s delicate, refined, but oh so expressive.

about the label
Art: The three flowers on the front of this label are painted by my mom, Eileen Anderson. Eriogonum fasciculatum, Eriophyllum confertiflorum, and Salvia mellifera are commonly found growing together in the Santa Barbara backcountry much like Marsanne, Roussane, and Viognier are found growing near each other in the hills of the Rhone Valley. This label is a creative rendition of a photo I took while camping on the top of Refugio ridge overlooking both the vineyard and the Pacific Ocean. France and Santa Barbara County, two of my happy places combined into one bottle of wine! The tiny damselfly on the back label was painted by me. I often see Ischnura cervula flying around the vineyard feeding on little bugs throughout the summertime. They are certainly a beautiful and helpful part of the ecosystem.

The wine club generally offers otherwise sold out wines.
