2023 Grenache - Alisos Canyon AVA
2023 Grenache - Alisos Canyon AVA
This Grenache comes entirely from the newest AVA in Santa Barbra County, Alisos Canyon. Alisos Canyon is an east-west corridor in Northern Santa Barbara County composed of alluvial deposits from the Paso Robles and Franciscan formations with some limestone streaks. It is a treat to showcase this lively expression of Grenache. The grapes in this Grenache come from Martian Ranch Vineyard, a Demeter certified biodynamic vineyard situated on the south west side of Alisos Canyon. This Grenache block is a massal selection interplanted with several different clones. This block handles whole cluster really well! You can definitely feel the love at this vineyard site. Surrounded by rows of flowers, bird boxes, and Santa Barbara County oak sprinkled hills, this vineyard is truly a treat to source grapes from!

This Grenache came together from two fermenters and only the best 6 barrels of Grenache the cellar produced. One of the fermenters was fermented 100% whole cluster and the other was destemmed. The ferments spent between 14-16 days on skins and were pressed gently. The wine was aged in neutral French oak and was bottled unfined and unfiltered in July 2024.

She’s one aromatic lady! Like your girlfriend that just walked in the room wearing something new. She’s mysterious, yet delightful. Uncommon red fruits on the palate, I think you’ll like her.

about the label
Sialia mexicana, the western bluebird, on the front label was painted by my talented mom, Eileen Anderson. The western bluebird is such a great natural predator to insect pests in the vineyard. They are a big part of the native food chain and ecosystem we are trying to sequester in all of our vineyards. The western bluebird can eat up to 400,000 insects in a year! We’ve built several bird boxes around our vineyards in order to give them a place to rear their young.
The wine club generally offers otherwise sold out wines.
